Rihanna was pissed. VERY!
I just came back from Rihanna World Tour concert 2008. It was sure a blast, to the extend, my ear is abit deafening and still recovering back to normal.
Anyway, I'm not sure if it will make the headline news tomorrow morning, but I'm giving first hand information as a live audience. The start was a total FLOP. She was standing 5 metres high on the elevated platform ready to wow the audience with "Disturbia". As she began to sing into the Mic, we hear nothing. Only the band was playing. As she slowly descend, you could see the word "pissed" on Rihanna face. She walked towards the side stage where the productions and main control were and started pointing to the mic and gave the expression "what the hell is going on". PISSED PISSED PISSED. I was a lil' taken aback actually. It was indeed a real bad start. But as the second song continued and the mic came alive, the crowd wow like they haven't seen a real star for decades.
I would say that comparing to those mandarin concert that I've seen, where audience sit down quietly back in their seat, you won't see this for an English Pop concert. Everyone stood up for that 1 hr 10 mins (oh, Rihanna concert was this short), dance, scream and sang along. This is because, mainly the crowd consist of caucasian and they aren't refrain from participating actively.
Also, there were only 2 sets of costume for her concert. Unlike Mando Pop concert where singer seems to have 101 set of costume to wow their audience, like a fashion show.
Stage set up was average. I don't really see much effort being put into stage design.
Overall 3 out of 5. Positive : For being able to make me go wild, high and dance non-stop for an hour. Negative : Poor stage design, technical set up were less than ready, too little costume to flaunt her petite yet pretty figure.
